Regina a facut aranjamente pentru ca Diana sa mearga la grajdurile lui Hewitt – langa casa pe care o impartea cu mama sa vaduva, Shirley Hewitt. Folosirea Royal Mews la Palatul Buckingham ar fi prea publica. Diana ar trebui sa aiba intimitate, s-a gandit Regina.
Diana si-a inceput lectiile la casa lui Hewitt, incepand cu sfarsitul lunii august. Deci, mitul larg raspandit cum ca nu s-au intalnit niciodata pana in 1986 este total inexact.
Cand s-au intalnit oficial in 1983, ea il cunostea din vedere de trei ani. Pana la Craciun, era insarcinata! Mai mult, se stie ca casatoria ei cu Charles avea probleme. Ea l-a invitat de multe ori pe Hewitt la cina, sa ramana sa se joace cu Harry, sa-i faca o baie si sa-i citeasca o poveste inainte de culcare. Orice “prieten” care face bai unui fiu care nu este al sau, ar fi considerat foarte ciudat. Nu exista nicio dovada ca vreun alt “iubit” l-a scaldat vreodata pe Harry.
A British Royal Family mystery… solved?
Princess Diana was married to Prince Charles from 1981 to 1996. During this time, she gave birth to two boys; Prince William, Duke of Cambridge, born on June 21st, 1982; and Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex, born on September 15th, 1984.
However, there is a persistent rumor that has refused to die; that is, that Charles is not Prince Harry’s father! If not Charles, then who? Enter Captain James Hewitt, a handsome career soldier, who Diana met in 1986. Many people have remarked on Harry’s striking resemblance to James Hewitt. Just one problem. Diana and Hewitt did not meet until Harry was 2 years old. So, case closed. Well, not quite.
There is a back story. Hewitt was assigned to the Household Guard (cavalry) at the Royal Mews at Buckingham Palace in January 1981. In July of 1981, he rode in the wedding procession of Charles and Diana. Hewitt also rode in every Trooping of the Colour, held each June from 1981-1984. He was known to the British Royal Family because they often visited the Royal Mews. The Royal Family’s love of horses was well known.
Well, until Diana appeared. She had no particular feelings for the equine world. In fact, she looked bored, yawning when watching Charles play polo. The Queen noticed. She had an idea, apparently. In July 1983, when Prince William turned 1, she decided that Diana should take riding lessons. The Queen’s thinking was that if Diana learned to ride a horse, she would be more sociably integrated. But who should teach her? Well, what about that pleasant young man at The Mews, Captain James Hewitt? Also, he was around Diana’s age. A perfect match. Yes, too perfect!
Hewitt agreed, and the Queen paid him to teach Diana to ride a horse. So, in the Summer of 1983, the riding lessons began – if you will pardon the expression. The Queen made arrangements for Diana to go to Hewitt’s stables – near the home, he shared with his widowed mother, Shirley Hewitt. Using the Royal Mews at Buckingham Palace was too public. Diana should have privacy, the Queen thought.
Diana began her lessons at Hewitt’s home, beginning at the end of August. So, the widely held myth that they never met until 1986 is totally inaccurate. When they formally met in 1983, she had known him by sight for 3 years. By Christmas, she was pregnant! Furthermore, it is known that her marriage to Charles was in trouble. (Charles was having an affair with Camilla Parker Bowles.) Also, when Charles heard of the pregnancy, he did some simple arithmetic that suggested he was almost certainly not the father. Nevertheless, he waited until Harry was born to fix a more precise date for the conception. This simply confirmed his suspicions, apparently. The simple arithmetic also revealed the only man who was around Diana on a regular basis at the time of conception – Captain Hewitt!
A month after Harry’s birth, October 1984, Hewitt was suddenly transferred away from Buckingham Palace. A coincidence? Or perhaps it would have been awkward for family members to run into him at the Royal Mews, or in parades. Hewitt did not meet Diana again until the Autumn of 1986, at a cocktail party. By that time, he had been promoted to the rank of Captain in the Life Guards, a regiment of the Household Cavalry.
Charles soon moved out of Kensington Palace to be with Camilla Parker Bowles and Diana began her carousel of affairs. She often invited Hewitt for dinner and to stay and play with Harry, give him a bath, and read him a story before bed. Any ‘boyfriend’ giving baths to a son who is not his own would be considered very weird. There is no evidence that any other ‘boyfriend’ ever bathed Harry.
